“The higher ups are expecting something soon,” Randy told me as I focused on the tv screen over the bar.

Grabbing my beer, I kept my eyes on the fight we were watching, ignoring him. I didn’t come out to talk about business. Tonight, Jaheem was defending his belt and it was a big deal. He had been making a lot of noise since going professional.

“I got a phone call this morning. They want some kind of manuscript by the end of the month.”

“Or what?” My eyes shifted to him. “My book sales have more than paid back my advance. The only reason I’m even giving them one more book is so they won’t sue my ass.” I finished my drink and waved the bartender over. “Let me a get Manhattan this time,” I requested.

“Coming right up.”

“I know that, and you know that, but they're getting restless. They also want you to reveal who you are.”

This time my eyes cut to him. “Why now?”

He shrugged. “I guess your fans are getting antsy about the person behind the words. Not to mention your sales have been doing really well.”

“Thanks, man.” I grabbed the glass.

“Look, I’ll have something to turn in soon. I finally found my mojo again, and I’ve been writing every day this week. But make sure they know after this book, I’m done. I’m going indie.”

Randy nodded. “I hear you, man. I’m sure they’re aware.”

“Good. I didn’t come here to discuss business anyways. I just wanna have a few drinks and watch the fight.”

“A’right, no more business talk.” Randy laughed and finished his drink.

My eyes went back to the screen where a couple of rookies were fighting.

“Dani still on your ass about renovating?”

“I don’t even want to talk about that shit.”

This time I laughed. “I don’t know how y’all asses lasted this long.”

“Trust me, I ask myself that shit all time. If I didn’t love her ass so damn much, I would have been left.”

Again, I chuckled. “Can’t argue with that. At least you stress her out just as much.”

“Ha! That is true, my friend, that is true.”

Randy indicated for the bartender to get him another drink.

Pulling my phone out, I looked at Aurora's text I had just received.

Dollface: Since you won’t tell me where you’re taking me, just tell me how I should dress. Dressy or casual?

Me: Dollface, anything you want. Either or works for me.

“I have a date with Aurora tomorrow,” I told him, setting my phone on the bar.

“Whoa, how did that happen?”

My eyes locked on my glass as I swished the liquid and ice cubes around in it. “I took your advice. I found a way to get the truth to her.”

“My boy!” Randy patted my back. “Aye, bartender, give us another round. My man here got his girl back!”

“I don’t have her back yet, but after tomorrow I will,” I chuckled.

My phone vibrated again.

Dollface : You’re not helping me at all. Whatever, I got this.

I smirked. I was in high spirits about tomorrow night. If I knew Aurora like I think I did, what I had planned was going to blow her mind.
